Exemptions Listing

The Waste Management Regulations (WMR) Step by Step Tool guides the user through all the regulations relating to waste, focusing in particular on the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2007 (the EP Regulations).

Under certain conditions, storage, process and use of waste may be exempt from the requirement of obtaining an environmental permit. Please see the Permitting and Exemptions page for more information.

Exemptions List

Below are links to three lists of exemptions from EP Regulations,  relevant to wastes that can be used in construction activities. These are grouped by activity, as presented in the WMR Step by Step Tool: storage, processing and use. The exemptions are grouped in ascending order of paragraph number, which is the number used in Schedule 3 of the EP Regulations. This Environment Agency webpage provides information on registration of exemptions for activities at lower or higher risk.

Please note, you should use the lists for reference only. You are strongly advised to use the WMR Step by Step Tool for complete information on the regulations, including more details on the conditions under which each exemption may apply.
