CO₂ Emissions Estimator Tool download

The Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) Emissions Estimator Tool is an Excel based calculation tool which estimates the carbon dioxide saved in selecting different construction techniques and supply alternatives, including the use of primary or recycled and secondary aggregates.

The tool assesses the carbon dioxide output resulting from four types of construction applications:

• bitumen bound
• concrete
• hydraulically bound
• unbound

The output is an estimate of the savings in CO₂ realised by selecting sustainable construction techniques and recycled/secondary materials. Users can also access the background calculations, where the carbon dioxide arising from different processes (e.g. embodied energies, transport, construction techniques) are estimated, and the data used.

This enables users to:

• identify areas realising the major savings or contributing most to the overall emissions (e.g. transport modes and distances, and different technologies) and quantify the savings in carbon dioxide emissions; and
• introduce data on equipment and materials being used.
